In Progress..
"The World is Flat" by Thomas L. FriedMan
an eye-opener - so far..
Paulo coelho's
The devil and miss prym (Just finished...)
Now that I've completed reading two of his works, I realise that Paulo Coelho himself is not my kinda person. I generally don't judge an author taking one or two of his works into consideration; so after "The Alchemist", I decided to pick Paulo's second popular book "The Devil and Miss Prym". By the time I was half way through, I could see a clear pattern among his books. He picks a simple story-line and does complex analysis on it. If the reader is someone who likes to personify (him/her)self in the protagonist's position and actually live through the story, then this book will have some life-enhancing effects on the reader. But for ppl like me, who think of books as exposure to out-side world and not as self-improvement aid, this book would be very much like a english non-detail story with a moral.
The alchemist
This one is not really my kind of book. In certain ways it did spell out some of my desires. I felt happy to find someone live my kind of desires; but the crux of the story is very much based on the infamous belief that we are all just puppets in the hands of almighty - i personally don't believe in this. I'm not an atheist neither a believer in fate or destiny. The plot, which revolves around the protagonist following his dream, is definitely a happy-ending one, because the boy was destined to see his dreams come true. Had the boy been destined to be a loser he would have been one irrespective what he did and didn't. After reading the climax, for few moments I was excited with the feeling that i too will be able to give shape to my dreams if I sincerely followed them, but then it crossed my mind, if the author was penning my fate then I should definitely ask myself a question - "what if I was not destined to?"..
